-
shoal lake, manitoba. I'm sure its over 15" by now. can't wait for the jack and the pickrel....
-
is that the same shoal lake that is on the border of manitoba and ontario???
-
nope. its actually about 30mins from saskatchewan south of riding mountian. ice must be over 24" now. the shack that we put up a couple weeks ago burnt down in the middle of the night. i dunno how. but we made a new one in like 6hrs and its way better. haha.
-
oh ok i was just wondering because i go fishing at a shoal lake that is rite on the border of maitoba and ontario and they have some great ice fishing there
-
yeah. if i go to winnipeg everyone says they get thier water from where i live. haha, their water would be mighty green then. alot of algae.
-
one day i want to go up north or out east and "real" fish. around here 30" jack are huge.
but every now and then I start thinking
bout the warm spring weather
I start dreaming of a 50 foot cast
reel it in quick reel it quick with a bass
but I can't
cause all I got is this hole
a hole in the ice and this 3 foot pole.
I got a hit,
my line screaming 'holy crap'
my pole's bent over guy
I think it's going to snap
Gotta love that!
Carp Fishing Tips
-

Using creamed
corn attracts carps by smell.
-
You can also boil potatoes slightly and substitute that for the creamed corn.
-
Let the fish "win" the first round of the fight, if there is no place for it to swim into and snag the line. This will make it easier to reel in.
-
If possible, have a friend or family member help you pull the fish in.
-
You should loosen your drag when fighting the fish. Once you have it worn out and by the dock or boat, tighten the drag and "bring it home".
-
It's good to bring a net to hold your fish.
-
Bring an additional fishing rod, this will raise the chance of a carp biting the hook.
-
Be patient.
Carp have good senses, often at times a lot of
Carp are lost to impatience.
-
Always pull the rod back in the opposite direction of the fish, if you keep the rod straight it will create an easy getaway plan for a carp.
-
Have a net that you can put your fish into then stick the net back into the water and secure it using a rock. This will keep your catch alive for some time.
-
Remember the thinner the line and the smaller the hook the more Carp are going to bite. This will make it harder to reel it in because it is easier for them to break the line.
-
Bring plenty of hooks because the hook can be ripped off by a monster fish or even sea weed and kelp.
-
A lot of times kelp or sea weed would get caught in the hook.

if you live in california, go to yosemite. then ask a ranger or something how to get to mammoth lakes. When you get there, you can rent cabins. go to lake goerge and in the way back, use this fly or a royal wulf I caught 8 15 inch rainbow and brook in like an hour.
-
cool. im probably not going to fly fish, cause my grandpa usually doesnt, but ill probably use mabe a bass rod with some corn on it. well, thats what my grandpa said.

“How to De-Hook a Lake Trout” video comments
-
Ok Guy's, this is a terrible example of how to de-hook a fish. You should NEVER drag a fish on the shore as he did. #1 It rubs off the protective layer of anti- bacterial slime. #2 When the fish flops around on the rocks it can injure itself severely. #3 This causes a monumental amount of stress on the fish. even if you watch it swim away, it will likely die a couple of hours later(especially stocked fish)
-
SO true, NorCalFishinguru! It was extremely hard for me to watch him do that. You should get a rubber net that doesn't hurt the slime or put the fish on a mat. And if/when you touch it you should wet your hands first and try to touch it as little as possible, but you'll have to fixate it in order to get the hook out gently rather than just shaking the fish up and down until the hook rips out like this "expert" did.
-
DUDE IT IS BETTER TO GRAB THE FISH AND TAKE THE HOOK OUT GENTLY THAN GRAB THE HOOK AND SHAKE THE FISH YOU. BECAUSE WHEN YOU SHAKE THE FISH IT RIPS THE GILLS AND ESOPHAGUS (TROWT) AND COUSES INTERNAL BLEEDING WHICH THEN NOT EVEN AN HOUR LIKE 5 MINUTES LATER THE FISH WILL DIES. man just dont fish for trout at all if your not gonna keep it, OR use lures> THATS ALL.
-
not touching the fish IS much safer for the fishs health. you can see fingr print shaped bacterial infections on fish who have been improperly handled, its dangerous for them.
-
Expert village is not a very reliable source of information. If you are very familiar with a certain subject, say... snowboarding, look for instructional video's by expert village related to snowboarding. You will find that they are wrong in many aspects. Don't trust expert village
-
Racist and sexist name-calling isn't cool. But, anyway, the reason you don't touch the fish is not that you're uncomfortable doing so, it's because touching their skin with dry hands causes a certain dangersous fungus to grow on the fish. This video is for catch-and-release, not throwing your fish in a bucket. I probably still wouldn't drag the fish onto the rock before releasing it, and it's always best to support the guy underwater a bit until he gets his bearings back and swims away.
-
you can touch the fish. Just make sure that you quickly wet and rinse your hands with the lake/river water before you do, so that your dry hand residue doesn't cling to fish. Also, like someone already said supporting the fish in the water is a must
-
why not just grap the dang thing thats what i do and i always throuw in dead fish when they swallow the hook
-
If I am going to release a fish I usually keep it in the water, then grab the line and the hook with some pliars.
-
well for myself if its a WHITE FISH, i will do what it takes to kill the god damn fish. And i will live the fish on the side of the lake to feed whatever his around.Because WHITE FISH eats the eggs of trouts or any other kind of fish. And that i dont like
