Fishing for Trout and Salmon

Comments:

  • paul needs some work with a net, poor guy could bearly get the lake trout
  • When trolling for Lakers, 2 mph to 2 1/2 mph are perfect speeds. As for size, a size SP3, SP4, or SP5 Viper Spoon could be used, but size SP4 is perfect. It has just the right spoon size as well as 3/0 mustad ultra point hooks, which are a nice size for lakers. Just tip your Viper Spoon with an artificial or real minnow/chub/shad (smelt size) or a thin, long strip of cut bait & you'll do great. Glad you enjoyed the video - thanks for writing in - good luck on the water and good fishing!
  • Sounds like you had a great day on the water. Thanks for sharing & good fishing!
  • Glad you liked the video. In lake superior, for trout, we would recommend a size SP1 or SP2 Viper Spoon with a real - or artificial minnow. Good luck on the water & thanks for writing in!

great video, i fish lake superior out of Marquette for lake trout and i love that idea of tipping the spoon with the minnow, definitely going to have to give that a try.

  • for lurers use spinners and for bait u powerbait marshmallows or cut open a trout and use the kind of bugs they have in there stomach
  • Most trout take minnows, worms, roe, insects, maggots as natural bait. Artificials include crankbaits, flies, jigs, soft plastics, spoons, spinners. Lake trout will also take cut-bait. Thanks & good fishing!
  • Good luck out there..try going out deeper...if you fish in the 20 foot range, you'll catch more smallmouth than you will trout. Thanks for writing in & good fishing!

waters of the Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon in Central Florida.
Florida flats fishing and backcountry fishing trips.

Located one hour from Orlando and Walt Disney World along the east central
coast of Florida between Cocoa Beach and Daytona Beach, the Mosquito
Lagoon
is the last piece of undeveloped fishing water in the area.  While the
name Mosquito Lagoon sound ominous, the pesky insects it is named after
never bother us on the water.  Flats fishing for redfish, trout, and black drum is
excellent year round. This diverse estuary also offers seasonal fishing
opportunities to catch tarpon, snook, jack crevalle, pompano, ladyfish, grouper,
snapper, and more.

Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon are the only places in the world
where redfish, also known as red drum or channel bass, live their entire lives
inshore. Here, in central Florida, we have the opportunity to catch trophy sized
Mosquito Lagoon redfish twelve months a year. If you are visiting the Orlando
or east central Florida area and are looking for a saltwater inshore fishing
guide, call me today to reserve a date for a fishing charter.

As your Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Guide I will put you in the best position to
cast your fly or lure to a tailing redfish or trophy sized seatrout. For those
looking for the ultimate flats fishing charter experience, the shallow clear
waters of the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River allow you to cast to fish you
can see. This is sight fishing at its finest.  Watching the fish chase down and
engulf your lure adds to the excitement of the catch.

My guided backcountry flats fishing charters are conducted from a clean and
well maintained Hewes flats skiff. You will be provided with top quality spinning
and fly fishing tackle as well as all lures and live baits. The cost of the fishing
charter also includes all licenses. I am a licensed US Coast Guard Captain and
hold a permit required to guide in the waters of Mosquito Lagoon inside the
Canaveral National Seashore & Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge.
The flats of the Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon system offer
you the chance to see a diversity of wildlife in addition to the spectacular
fishing. During your trip, you may see a variety of land and sea creatures
including bottlenose dolphin, manatee, and alligators. In addition, Mosquito
Lagoon is home to  an assortment of birds ranging from bald eagles and
osprey to pelicans, ibis, spoonbills,  egrets, herons, storks,  more.  My
Mosquito Lagoon Wildlife Photography page has photos of some of the
animals you may encounter.

For those who are new to flats fishing near Orlando or want to learn to fish the
waters around Titusville, New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach,Cocoa Beach,
or Melbourne, I also offer personal fishing instruction. Classes will be
designed to fit the needs of the angler. Tackle and bait selection, spin and fly
casting, knot tying, presentation, selecting productive waters, and fighting fish
are a small sample of topics I cover. Sharing my experience of fishing Mosquito
Lagoon for twenty years and being a full time fishing guide and charter captain
will help you become a better angler and catch more fish.

If you are interested in booking a flats fishing charter on the inshore waters of
central Florida or need more information, email or call me at 321-229-2848.
This is the best inshore saltwater fishing near Orlando, Walt Disney World and
the Central Florida attractions! Most of my fishing charter clients stay in or
near Orlando, Disney World, Cocoa Beach, New Smyrna Beach, Daytona
Beach
, Titusville, or Kissimmee. If you need help selecting a place to stay in
central Florida, feel free to ask me about a convenient location.

In an effort to protect our resource, all fishing charters are catch, photo, and

“How to De-Hook a Lake Trout” video comments

  • Ok Guy's, this is a terrible example of how to de-hook a fish. You should NEVER drag a fish on the shore as he did. #1 It rubs off the protective layer of anti- bacterial slime. #2 When the fish flops around on the rocks it can injure itself severely. #3 This causes a monumental amount of stress on the fish. even if you watch it swim away, it will likely die a couple of hours later(especially stocked fish)

  • SO true, NorCalFishinguru! It was extremely hard for me to watch him do that. You should get a rubber net that doesn't hurt the slime or put the fish on a mat. And if/when you touch it you should wet your hands first and try to touch it as little as possible, but you'll have to fixate it in order to get the hook out gently rather than just shaking the fish up and down until the hook rips out like this "expert" did.

  • DUDE IT IS BETTER TO GRAB THE FISH AND TAKE THE HOOK OUT GENTLY THAN GRAB THE HOOK AND SHAKE THE FISH YOU. BECAUSE WHEN YOU SHAKE THE FISH IT RIPS THE GILLS AND ESOPHAGUS (TROWT) AND COUSES INTERNAL BLEEDING WHICH THEN NOT EVEN AN HOUR LIKE 5 MINUTES LATER THE FISH WILL DIES. man just dont fish for trout at all if your not gonna keep it, OR use lures> THATS ALL.

  • not touching the fish IS much safer for the fishs health. you can see fingr print shaped bacterial infections on fish who have been improperly handled, its dangerous for them.

  • Expert village is not a very reliable source of information. If you are very familiar with a certain subject, say... snowboarding, look for instructional video's by expert village related to snowboarding. You will find that they are wrong in many aspects. Don't trust expert village

  • Racist and sexist name-calling isn't cool. But, anyway, the reason you don't touch the fish is not that you're uncomfortable doing so, it's because touching their skin with dry hands causes a certain dangersous fungus to grow on the fish. This video is for catch-and-release, not throwing your fish in a bucket. I probably still wouldn't drag the fish onto the rock before releasing it, and it's always best to support the guy underwater a bit until he gets his bearings back and swims away.

  • you can touch the fish. Just make sure that you quickly wet and rinse your hands with the lake/river water before you do, so that your dry hand residue doesn't cling to fish. Also, like someone already said supporting the fish in the water is a must

  • why not just grap the dang thing thats what i do and i always throuw in dead fish when they swallow the hook

  • If I am going to release a fish I usually keep it in the water, then grab the line and the hook with some pliars.

  • well for myself if its a WHITE FISH, i will do what it takes to kill the god damn fish. And i will live the fish on the side of the lake to feed whatever his around.Because WHITE FISH eats the eggs of trouts or any other kind of fish. And that i dont like
