hey captian what bridge is that I was thinking about going over there with my boat.... all I use is avets best reel made. Will Live ladyfish work?
-
never rest your rod on anything when fighting a big fish xD
-
Lol I like how enthusiastic you are. And yeah, I'd be happy just catching those fish you used as bait as well ;)
-
you should have set your drag more but not to much and you would not of had that problem
-
shoulda let it run a while
-
You cant let it run at all...if you do you'll get broke off instantly. Y ou gotta get on emm quick and get them outta the structure.
-
Better he was in that situation than me. I'd ask my dad to hold that fish right there in the water with the broken rod. Then I'd kick my shoes off, put my fillet knife between my teeth and dived in after that sucker. I think we can all say this guy makes better decisions under pressure.
-
too bad theyre protected

-
Well the rod would be resting right on top of my balls if I stuck it between my legs like that. Just saying.. he must have no balls or tiny ones > no disrespect.. just busting his balls.. or maybe he already did that LOL
-
capt ben YOU ARE AWSOME when you broke that rod you were all calm if i broke a rod like that i would be devestated but you took it as it came. im 14 and come from oz and you are the reason i caught a 50 kilo queensland grouper
-
unless there was a good reason to pull that hard because there are snags.. but even then i rather lose a fish than break my own gear hehehe
-
Yep, first of all, if he was going for any kind of legit record, that disqualifies him. It's cheating for leverage. Anyhow, bad idea, and it did break from being placed on the rail, otherwise the rod would not have broken in that spot. These guys are awesome fishermen, but that was human error not equipment failure.
-
there is thing i've noticed about all these big fish catches. Why didnt the freakin camera man help him? The poor guy's dying over there. Give him a hand instead of fliming dude!!
-
its because world record fish dont count if another person touches the rod, and because the camera man gets paid to film not to catch fish
-
Ronaldhino3000 if a 600 pound grouper was pulling on your rod would you have been able to stop the rod from being placed on the rail?
-
The guy is a hell of a fisherman, but the rod
did not have to break. 600 lb+ fish have been landed on similar or lighter rods. Took hiim down, but maybe the drag was set too tight. Notwithstanding, great show and great fisherman.
-
ur a big man talking crap on the internet ur probably a bluegill fisherman if u dont like the video then dont tlak about it moron
-
MyBackIsCold can you even fish? Bigdog is right. This man holds the world record for goliath grouper so shut up and go home
-
capt i was wondering im from miami and love fishing well i want to know if were you fish(stuart) is any good? and were could i fish should i bring my boat but it looks like their great game under birdges or what any good fishing bridges? plz respond
-
That looks fun how deep were you? It looks like you wasn't far from land. Here in Jacksonville FL we have to be at least 10 mi out to get any grouper let alone a Goliath.
-
So you people cath the fish but then release them afterwards? I like that, respect for you and your folks then! Fishing is okay! as long they don't kill those big creatures:)
you got some INCREDIBLE videos capt chancey. That G.Bass looks like it pulls like a 500 lb Amberjack. My back is hurting just watching this. Have you ever caught a MAKO? We were fortunate enough to run across a 340 lb Mako after it nailed my 150 lb YFT so we free gaffed it and drug it through the door and all HELL broke loose. What a fish, no doubt as to what rules the Gulf.
-
Ok, just let me know if you ever come across here and want to just fish. I fish inshore as well as offshore. Anything from speckled trout, redfish, flounder, triple tail, snapper, cobia, and amberjack. I actually have a question for you. Can you eat snook?
-
Yes, they're fished commercially in Latin America.
-
what kind of string do you use and i go fishing at a pier for sharks and halibit but havent caught much pleace give me a hint any hint on getting big fish
-
crisiscoolchris the biggest thing is you have to know those fish are there before you target them. If you are fishing for them and they are not there you can't catch them.
-
you should not say oh my word so much and how come you do all the fishing instead of the people who charter you. and you yelling sort of sounds like a girl
-
The reason the rod broke, besides that being a huge fish, is because he let the rod rest up against the corner of the boat. A rod is made to work as one long flex. The boat edge pushed into the rod and weakened it. I SURE HOPE YOU RELEASED THAT AWESOME FISH!! Groupers are rightly protected. They are gentle fish. If you killed it shame on you.
-
good lord dude 600 pounds probably you did a sick job and yes the rod broke cause it was on the ledge but it held 600 pounds so it worked
-
Not To be a ball buster Capt. Chancey but you do know that It is against the law to pull a goliath grouper out of the water. You must catch and release the fish while it is in the water. its against the law to even pick it up and have it in your possesion
-
lol this guy sounds like hes having an…, The funniest part was near the end when hes goes like " oh my god! LOOOK! AT that
FISH! AHHHH ! " lol it sounds like its some Laguna Horror movie
-
Oh Ok i figured you did it before the new law. I think its shit...If I went through all that to get a
fish like that I would want to pick it up and take a picture
-
We fish in SW Florida in the Cape Coral, Ft. Myers area. As far as where we get our gear. There are many places. I just came back from West Marine with some cable for Goliath fishing.
-
Cape Fear and it was only a 25 to 50 we have caught many Goliaths up to 500 pounds on that rod. If I didn't let it touch the gunnel it would have never broke. I just couldn't hold it anymore.
-
Hey capt. Thanks on the info on the rod,It looked like the rods I have in the philippines, their Shakesphere tidewater50-100 and realy wanted to know,.You replied very fast and I thank you very MUCH!!!Happy fishing to you...
-
if the fisherman is 250lb, l dont think the fish is 600lb, clasic mistake though
-
The fisherman was 200lb and the
fish was nearly 8ft long and 70 plus inches around. Sounds pretty big to me when you apply the fish formula.
-
Classic mistake? Fact • 500 pounds with BOUYANCY can be manipulated by a 200 pound person if the fish is not exherting itself downward. The line itself woud break before pulling the man off his feet assumiing it was not a 200 pound test line. Ignorant mistake though...on your part.
That fish is sick, I don't think i would be able to bring something like that in. I have been deep sea fishing for eight years and caught marlin, sailfish, and other types of fish, but nothing like this BEAST. Oh yeah I also went snook fishing in the outskirts of the everglades and got caught up on some bull sharks. That was a sweet experience.
-
Giant THANKS to all who watch Chew On This. We just hit 4 million viewers on 2/19/09. As far as I know you all have made Chew On This the
most watched fishing show in the world Online.
-
are people allowed to keep the galiath grouper of that size ? If not what is the size limit and bag limit on fish of this calliber of fish.
-
yummo i live gag grouper and all grouper i go deep sea fishing out in NC we catch snapper grouper and all that good stuf but id like to fish for these monsters one day just for tha fun
-
OMG That fish was huge!!!!!!!!! And the reason why his pole broke is because there is no reason to have the drag setting that tight so close to the boat
-
what dude he is like ten feet away from the brigde if he gets around one of those pilons its over and obviously you never have fish for grouper cause you set that drag that tight every time 400 feet or ten feet it dont matter
-
dang dude did u get it on the boat???
-
We are not allowed to anymore.
-
they are not allowed to put them in the boat that type of grouper are protected they don't care who you are pro angler or a once in awhile angler you cant pull it on your boat some of his videos he did but that was taped before the no in you boat thing but even then you weren't allowed to keep a Goliath grouper
-
CONGRATULATIONS, but.... Honestly, the fish didn't break the rod, you did it. Should loose the star on your reel just a bit and never put your rod against the boat, put attention at the video and the moment the rod touched the boat it broke.
-
is this in sanibel befor they built the new bridge theres a huge grouper that sits in the middle pilon of the new brigde about that size and evena bigger one down at big carlos pass i seen him come up and eat a ray in one bite he looked like a small car
-
Do you fish? because I do, and I understand how he feels. I once won a Fishing Torny with a 10 pound Big Mouth Bass. Got a new, pricey Fishin' Pole with new pricey Lures. Ahhh...It was so awesome, fighting that bugger in!
