Need a bigger hole lads, at least 10 inch.
-
its illegal to have a hole that big gotta be the size of the ice augger drill
-
Everything is illegal in Canada. Can't use barbed hooks or live bait in Cache Bay on Saganaga in the Quetico anymore.
-
Ha! This guy deleted my comment (did I hurt his feelings?) you replied to! Anyway, I heard it this winter when we were near there on US side of Sag. Do you fish there? I heard from the MN DNR folks that's what the Canadian wardens were saying. SORRY IF I OFFENDED ANY CANADIANS WITH MY ORIGINAL POASTING!!!
-
your right..you can't use barbed hooks or live bait in canada...its funny how nationalistic and protective candians are when you point out something bad about their country
-
Thanks in advance for the response. I'm an Illinois resident but travel everywhere to chase pike n musky and am all fast Catch n Release. Thanks guys!
Where is Slave Lake?
Alberta Canada. Slave Lake is the town on the shore of Lesser Slave Lake.

pike are good eating in the winter time nasty in the summer great catch and good job on bringing him up to the surface one of the best fish to catch in my eyes
-
Adventure has ice fishing cabins on the lake near Widewater which is 10 minutes (by car) from the Slave Lake townsite. I intend to experience this next winter. I know Devonshire Beach has nice soft sand-I think they do have sand castle making competitions in Slave Lake.

That reminds me about a similar situation i had cople of years ago.
To bad that Swedish winters are to warm these days, i havn´t been icefishing in years know.
But i still fish a lot pike on the spring and summertime.
Great catch by the!

Fisherman are not rednecks. We are people who scope out spots, study the art and sport, and take it seriously and know what we are doing. Rednecks are guys that fish crappies, bass, or catfish, sit back, drink beer, smoke, and hope the fish bite. Geeeez, get the facts straight here, lol. I am just giving you shit man, I am a diehard angler that take smy fishing seriously. FISHING IS LIFE!!!!!!
-
hahaha i live in redneck country and the way u desrcibed a redneck pretty much describes me. the frist one with theyer truck on the ice, the guy shooting ppls tip ups with a bb gun, sleeping in the shack for a week straight all parties hahah. fishing is the shit.
-
Sounds like fun, expessially the tipup shooting part. It is hilarious watching guys get false flags and watching them bitch all the way back to their base camp. Imagine someone getting 50 false flags in a day, that would piss anyone off,lol....

do they have muskies in alaska cuase i love to fish them and i am in wisconsin but i love snowmobiling so i was wondering if they had muskies in alaska
You Fellas, a fish that size is really good for the gene pool. You can release one that size and keep two half that size, and still end up with really nice fillets. I hope that fish lived to see another day.Best technique how to catch a pike or musky
Once you start jigging try different jigging rhythms until one works. Start with a 1-2 foot lift and fall rhythm. Then let the lure settle and remain still for about 20 seconds in between the lift/fall rhythm. Vary the speed and the length of the 'jig' rhythm to try to find one that works. Sometimes when nothing seems to work try 'thrumming'. This is the process of rapidly 'wiggling' the rod tip so that the lure quickly jigs up and down within a 1-3 inch vertical movement.
Actually it's the Muskie that is considered a deformed kind of pike. I've caught them in Lac Maskinonge in Quebec. Quite the fighters. Mnay sharp teeth! At that lake you couldn't keep them if they were under 27 inches. Any limit where you are? Good luck with the fishing....watch yer toes in summer..... but I guess there'll be still ice where you are, eh? lol
